The new body of water and short section of canal currently under development at Clones, Co. Monaghan provides an opportunity for an operator to create a high-quality recreation and leisure experience with a focus on destination development, sustainability and community benefits. Background information is provided in the attached Prospectus, which sets the context and articulates the opportunity for a new operator. Waterways Ireland is now commencing a Market Soundings process with potential providers, who are interested in delivering a high-quality visitor experience(s) and community resource, with a focus on both on-water and land-based activities. Waterways Ireland is keen to encourage innovative and creative activities at and around the canal basin, which will contribute to the overall vision for the site. The Market Soundings will provide an opportunity to engage with interested parties who may have ideas on potential uses, and this will inform the next stage of the process. Through discussions, partners will be able to be more definite about activities that can be delivered by the market - as well as helping to define the sort of activities that are not appropriate at the facility. It is emphasised that this is not a call for competition, and no tender documents are available at this stage. No competitive process will result from this advertisement; any future competitions concerning this matter will be subject to appropriate advertisement in due course on www.etenders.gov.ie. Waterways Ireland will treat all material discussed confidentially and if a competition is held, will draw up an open and accessible specification that favours no individual dialogue participant.
