Description:
Dublin City Council invites Tenders from suitably qualified and experienced Contractors for the repair, refurbishment and upgrade works to the existing reinforced concrete chimney at the Boiler House, Ballymun, Dublin 9. The chimney is approximately 52 metres in height and forms part of the former Ballymun District Heating Scheme, now located within the Rediscovery Centre campus. Detailed structural investigations, condition surveys, material testing and defect mapping have been completed. The Contract relates to the execution of the recommended repair solution and associated refurbishment works. Tenderers are not required to undertake structural assessments or determine the repair strategy. The Works shall include, but not be limited to: • Design, supply, installation and removal of all temporary works, mast climbers, access platforms, hoists, fall arrest systems and rescue arrangements required to safely execute the works at height. • Localised reinforced concrete repairs to identified areas of cracking, spalling, delamination, honeycombing and failed historic repairs. • Cleaning, treatment and reinstatement of exposed reinforcement where required. • Installation of localised galvanic cathodic protection (incipient anode protection) around repair areas. • Application of reprofiling mortars and fairing coats to prepare concrete surfaces. • Application of a high-performance anti-carbonation protective coating system to the full external surface of the chimney. • Removal and reinstatement of the lightning protection system as required to facilitate repairs. • Repair, refurbishment or replacement of steel cover plates over duct entry points including associated fixings. • Provision and installation of permanent capping systems to the chimney flues. • Removal of any asbestos-containing materials, where identified and required, in accordance with statutory requirements (unless they are deemed safe to leave and manage in place). • Removal of pest infestations, nesting materials and debris from the chimney flues where required. • Repainting and reinstatement of the existing red and white chimney banding/stripes. • Testing, commissioning, certification, preparation of repair records and provision of operation and maintenance documentation to assist in the future inspection, maintenance and repairs. • Other repair, refurbishment and upgrade works that become evident over the course of the project. The successful Tenderer shall demonstrate experience in reinforced concrete repair works, working at height, specialist access systems and the application of concrete repair and protective coating systems in accordance with relevant Irish and European Standards. The successful Tenderer will be required to carry out the role of PSCS under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. This is a restricted tender competition. Stage 1 will involve Expressions of Interest / Suitability Assessment and shortlisting. Stage 2 will involve an Invitation to Tender to the shortlisted candidates.
