Invasive Alien Species pose a significant threat to marine environments, native biodiversity and habitats including those upon which aquaculture operations rely. They impact upon aquaculture stock, and the normal functioning and operations of the industry. Their association with aquaculture movements also presents a risk to the public perception and reputation of the sector. Under the MSFD and EU Invasive Species Directive, Ireland is required to act on the monitoring and management of invasive species in our marine environments.
