- The development will consist of the redevelopment, refurbishment and extension of Crawford Art Gallery (a Protected Structure). The proposal consists of: A new 7 storey over ground floor extension to the existing building, combined with alterations, renovation, repurposing and enhancement of the existing protected buildings. The overall Gross Floor Area of the existing and new buildings is 5,560 metre squared. The works shall include for the complete replacement of the existing electrical services with new installations throughout the existing building and the new extension. The project will require all electrical services as would be expected for an Art Gallery that displays artwork of significant national and international recognition. New power and data cable reticulation systems to serve all rooms in the new and existing buildings will be required. The electrical systems will provide new BMS, security, lighting, audio-visual systems , fire alarm and early warning systems, power and data systems to offices, art galleries and vertical transportation systems, to provide safe access and egress for the general public. Standby power systems with dual circuit redundancy measures will maintain all life safety systems and indoor environmental control to the art storage rooms and Van Egeraat lower gallery. New lightning protection and earthing systems will be installed. Systems to cater for people with disabilities will be provided, for example hearing induction loop system, safety refuge systems in fire escape routes and disabled toilet alarms. Photo-voltaic electrical generation systems will be installed on the roof.
