Carlow | Tender Documents 2026-03-20.zip | Carlow County Council is proposing the development of a water activity centre in Carlow Town, Co Carlow. The project site in Carlow Town is located on the western bank of the River Barrow. The proposed 0.36 hectare site is adjacent to the existing Carlow Town Park, within the Town Centre on the banks of the River Barrow. Carlow Water Activity Centre received a full grant of planning permission in October 2022. This application was made following a grassroots approach to identify facilities that will best meet the evolving needs of its users and will cater for a full range of ages and abilities. The project has been scoped and developed by Carlow County Council in partnership with Laois County Council, local sporting and youth bodies, national governing bodies and the community supporting the overarching vision for town regeneration and development of recreational infrastructure in Carlow. The Water Activity Centre will link into the existing facilities of the Town Park and provide a central campus for all recreational and well-being opportunities for all. It will bring new life to the underutilized riverbank as well as supporting the active use of the River Barrow thus supporting a regenerated Carlow Riverfront. The Water Activity Centre should comprise of a variety of facilities designed to support both public engagement and water-based activities. | EN |
