The Skelligs are a nationally and internationally important site for the natural and cultural heritage. Skellig Michael is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Skellig Michael, together with Little Skellig, was designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) given the islands’ importance for breeding seabirds. The Skelligs are nationally recognised for their ornithological significance as a Statutory Nature Reserve.
