Business Development Contractor to Support the Direct International Maritime Foreign Inward Investme

Description of the goods or services required

For this role we are seeking a high caliber candidate with the required industry background and understanding. As a Business Development Consultant representing the IMDO you will be responsible for identifying and winning new business from leads generated by the IMDO but also based on your knowledge and experience of the local and international market place.- It is proposed that the contract on offer will run for a period of 1 year from the commencement date: with an option to extend the contract for a further 12 months under the same terms and conditions, subject to Marine Institute Board approval should the option be pursued by the IMDO.- The contract will commence in June 2010- The contractor will be required to work 3 days per week.- The contractor will not be required to work on the programme area for the month of August- Overseas meetings will be required in order to deliver on the work programme.- Contractors must have a valid tax clearance certificate in order to receive payment from any state agency, including the Marine Institute.- All advice, work, information gathered and reports produced during the course of the contract shall remain the property of the IMDO.Consistent with the IMDO development strategy it will be a prerequisite to tendering that the successful consultants should currently be based in, or reside within reasonable proximity to one of the following target locations: HAMBURG / PARIS / NEW YORK / HONG KONG / TOKOYO

Total quantity or scope of tender

The annual budget for this tender is capped at €47,000 (excluding Travel and Subsistence and Value Added Tax where applicable) however service providers should note that this is a maximum figure and should they wish to achieve a competitive advantage their bid should be priced accordingly.

The contractor will be responsible for identifying suitable foreign direct projects that might lead to the establishment of maritime related investments with the creation of direct employment and investment in Ireland. Clear, specific, guidelines and targets will be agreed with the consultants consistent with the IMDO business strategy and mandate.

The scope of the development remit will specifically focus on development emerging from the following primary and secondary industry segments

Principally,

- Ship owning companies/groups

- Ship Management firms

- Ship Broking firms

And in the second instance,

- Maritime insurance firms

- Shipping financing firms

- Maritime legal firms

3 Conditions for Participation

3.1

Minimum standards and qualification required

- Demonstrate an understanding of the IMDO’s role, Ireland’s inward investment strategy, and the key requirements for attracting international shipping service providers to Ireland.

- Experience of working with senior management/boards of management of global ship owning firms

- The candidate must provide an initial market assessment (not more than 3 pages) with their initial ideas on the market potential to develop this role, including a brief outline strategy and separate project plan for completing the work

- Cost (50% of overall marks)
